BC Hydro Power Smart
Upgrade your existing space heating system to a hydronic heating system, such as a hydronic heat pump, through the BC Hydro Power Smart program. Unlike traditional systems that directly convert fuel or electricity into heat, a hydronic heat pump efficiently transfers heat from one place to another. This makes it an excellent choice compared to electric furnaces or baseboard heaters.
Eligible homeowners can receive up to $7,000 in combined rebates by replacing their current electric heating system with a heat pump. This includes $2,000 from BC Hydro and up to $5,000 from the federal government’s Canada Greener Homes Grant.- If you’re switching from a fossil fuel heating system to an electric heat pump (including hydronic systems), you could receive up to $6,000 in combined rebates.
- BC Hydro provides a $3,000 rebate top-up in addition to CleanBC’s existing $3,000 rebate.
- This means eligible applicants can get a total rebate of up to $6,000 when transitioning to an electric or hydronic heat pump
CleanBC Hydronic Heating System Rebates
The CleanBC program offers rebates for homeowners upgrading to energy-efficient hydronic heating systems, aiming to reduce energy use and improve home comfort. Eligible participants must be B.C. citizens living in year-round residences that are at least 12 months old. Rebates vary based on the type of system installed:
- Hydronic Heating System Upgrades: Various options, including natural gas boilers and electric heat pump water heaters, with rebates up to $4,300.
- You must live in an eligible home that is a year-round primary residence and at least 12 months old.
- You must have a residential utility account with FortisBC, BC Hydro, or a municipal utility.
- The home must be one of the following types: single-family home (detached dwelling) or secondary suite in a single-family home with its own separate utility meter
